Sometimes there's a less-used room that you can move things to. Is that a possibility?

compared to decorating around your husband's recliner that he's moved around since college, i'd say you have a walk in the park for your dilemma. ; )

sometimes we just need to deal with what our relationships bring to us. if we could have a photo of the room and the rug we could make useful suggestions in how to bury it a bit.

i will take a photo and post....no other room, this is the one and only great room. I understand (hahaha) used to being on my own for over 15 years so this is an adjustment.

I love the 2 pics above. The lighter-colored upholstered pieces lighten up the beautiful dark rugs, letting their beauty show as well as that of the entire space. The darker rugs "anchor" the room, and allow for a myriad of colors for accessories.
