What is your budget? What other colors do you like? Do you want a monochromatic soothing look or something with more color & movement?

What lovely open spaces & I love the windows. I would want to leave the transom windows bare unless you get too much sun through them.

I think the idea of Plantation Shutters might be of great benefit in this situation. They will allow the light in and you can louver them to mask brick walls, parked cars, etc. Because of the pitch of your ceiling and the cottage cheese ceiling I would not recommend crown molding.

I would most likely float a sofa with its back to the dining room and place a console table behind the sofa. This will give you a visual division between the two area. Depending on how much seating you need, you can certainly place a pair of chairs under the front windows. Or if you would like more seating, you could turn the sofa into a sectional so the second piece backs up to the hall. You could then possibly place a single chair on an angle under the windows. I'm not certain with a sectional you will have enough room to do a pair of chairs. To fill in you can always add some benches and if no room is available for that addition, perhaps you can store two benches under your console table?

bradandkathy, I thought about your question. I really don't know what style I am. May be modern/classical like karenpaul says looking through my ideabook as I do like the design of sofa she suggested very much. sandraclark's description of monochromatic soothing look also seems right.

Generally I like simple, understated yet elegant look in the furniture where all furnishings blend in together (so maybe just 2-3 colors and the variation is in shades) to give a uniform look and the room has one focal point (say in the formal living, fire place area is the one I think). Less furniture than more would also be my style. Easy to clean is definitely something I want too, so simple lines in the furniture, no grooves etc is something I prefer.

If there is too much movement, it starts looking busy to me, but I am open to that too. So I like bright and cheerful or calm and soothing styles.

sandraclark, I like the color of the sofa that karen put in, but I am open to all colors and styles. Anything that will make the room look beautiful.

Jennifer O, the living room looks nice but is bold for me (red is overpowering everything else). The look in the bedroom is nice and I like that style more. Thanks for the pictures.

what colors do you like you can pick one the go with a secondary and an accent this will make a clean not to busy look by colorful do you mean bright or just colorful. you can go with dark furniture and go with light cushions or vise versa. contemporary or crazy or modern Wichita do you prefer.

also do you have kids real bright furniture and a spill don't go together very well.

142.27 from ikea do you like the couch. this table is 203.99 are you liking the look or are you asking for something different these are just ideas don't go like go buys these look around at local stores.

I like the style of the couch, the color I like the most so far is in the picture Karen gave above. I have always liked that color because it blends so well with the wall color.

Aran04, I see in your posting that you say you have 4ceiling lights, so your lighting is taken care of. Sorry, my friend, it is not! The overhead lights (cans?) in such a large room will add general lighting, but you also need task lighting, wall lighting, to highlight art, and ambient lighting, to warm up the dark corners. The overheads alone will be harsh, and it will make your furniture and art look off. It is such a large room, I suggest after you define your furniture layouts, you contact a lighting designer, or interior designer to come help you determine the best way to light the room. It's that part of the design most of us get wrong!

Do you have a good quality furniture store in your area? If so, draw your floor plan with all measurements and see what they come up with. Don't just buy a sofa or chairs you like without a plan. Once you know how many pieces you need and the correct sizes you can start shopping. Get your base neutral pieces in place and then you can start to accessorize.

for your sofa and you have choices in both fabrics and wood finishes. Also, I found a good size coffee table that offers flexibility and looks modern with lines and finish that would work well with the sofa and chairs and a possible end table. Thoughts?

Does the sofa set look good enough to take? We have used it for about 6 years now. If I take it that I won't be under too much pressure to buy a new one, however the negative is that we will have to move it. I am thinking of selling it and starting afresh but not sure yet...

Hi Aran, just wanted to mention....we actually have the MG sofa that Karen's proposed for your space. It comes in an 88" or 98" (we have the 98")....and we love ours.

It looks like it will be however a lower back than the current ones you have. That has been the one big change for my hubby that he's still getting used to. He liked the taller back sofas for comfort reasons better.

It also will not have as "cushy" of a feel as your current sofas because of its style....although you could opt for the down cushions. We didn't opt for the down due to the higher maintenance factor.
