How loud is your Liebherr refrigerator?

I just got a CS1660 and to be honest I am disappointed in how loud it is. I've read lots of people saying their Liebherr is "whisper quiet" and "I can't even tell that it's on", but I can hear the compressor from the other side of the room while I'm watching tv. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with mine. One thing that makes me think maybe there's something wrong is the freezer is much quieter than the refrigerator. When just the freezer is running I would definitely call it "whisper quiet". But when the refrigerator is running it is louder than my old Maytag bottom of the line refrigerator and louder than the cheapo mini fridge I was using while I was waiting for the Liebherr to arrive. So I have 2 questions:

1. How loud is your Liebherr really? Are the people who say it is whisper quiet exaggerating or are they really that quiet?

2. Do your refrigerator and freezer make about the same amount of noise?

A lot of newer fridge compressors make a noise that is only noticeable and annoying to certain people. Does everyone in your house notice this noise or is it only you?

Well I am single so technically yes everyone in my house notices the noise ;). I had a friend over the other day and she said it was loud. So it's not just me. Does anyone know if the refrigerator and freezer compressors are the same part? or do they use different parts? If they are the same part then I know something is wrong with the refrigerator.

Im interested to know this. I am in the market for a new quiet refrigerator and quite a few people have told me they dont hear their Liehberrs so thanks for posting.

If you can hear it from across the room, there must be a problem. I'd call Liebherr service.

sprtphntc, any thoughts on your fridge? We're considering the 36" FD (biofresh) for a kitchen remodel. Seems like a good buy compared to a SZ.

Did you get this resolved? I would be interested to know what happened as I am having the same problem. It's not noisy all the time, it cycles, I guess when it's kicking in to bring it back down to temperature. Who knows, but you notice it when it kicks on and off again significantly.

same problem for me very loud, tech says the fan might be the problem, I have one in NYC that is runs at a whisper? strange will see after the fix?

Interesting. We have had our 36” Liebherr for several years now, and we never notice any noise from it. And believe me, I am very noise sensitive. I hope you get your issues resolved.

tks, I also am noise sensitive being a musical instrument tech, and a musician , driving me nuts, from what I see so far from the community it is hit or miss, maybe different parts from different manufacturers ? will see with the new fan? hopefully!

I splurged on a Liebherr CBNEF 4835-20, seduced by its advertising about quietness, and the result is that I have never owned a noisier fridge. Annoying constant and loud humming. Can even be heard upstairs. Very bad experience. Will need to sell. Liebherr service visited and claims this is normal. Caveat emptor.

i have to say, just shocked. ours is 7+ years and its still as quiet as mouse.

i would call the 'home office' and have them send out another/different technician. its should not by any means be noisy!

    best of luck!

Two more years on and, yes, our Liebherr fridge is still completely silent. Our new Sub Zero freezer, on the hand, does make some noise every time after the door has been closed.

sprtphntc71 and akrogirl32. Many thanks really for your feedback. Could I ask you one more question : can you tell me the model of Liebherr fridge you have ? Mine is a CBNEF 4835-20 fridge-freezer combo. Reading up on this, I've discovered that the newer ones contain so-called inverter compressors, which save energy but run continuously (as opposed to the older ones which switch on and off) and at a higher frequency, explaining the constant high-pitched noise. I was wondering if your models are quiet because they have the conventional compressors. Thanks so much. All my best, Jan

    We have the CS 2082.

Thank you. Akrogirl32. I will investigate the kind of compressor that this model has, and whether it is different from mine

Jansap30, good luck. I hope you are able to get this issue resolved.

I bought the Liebherr cnef 5735.

Totally not happy with the amount of noise.

Indeed this is the new generation fridge....

Having a small engine, but this engine runs all the time.

It is supposed to be ultra quiet.

But at night, when my house is quiet, I can clearly hear the fridge at a distance of 12 Meter !

And the worst thing is, is that it is on about 50% of the time.

No, this Liebherr is going out the door.

we have the HCB 2082, bought in 2012-2013. still quiet as a mouse... the only thing you hear is the ice dropping when u are near it...

sprtphntc7a, we had our HC-2082 installed a month ago after a minor repair to the rear wheel, it seems like the noise the fridge makes when it makes ice got way louder (my wife and I think it did and we're going crazy, ha!)... Do you notice the noise when the water refills? It happens after the ice drops and then it's like a buzzing that lasts 5 seconds.

Water inlet valve solenoids are a magnetic coil and often make a buzzing noise. Perhaps investigate if sheet of rubber or isolation washers can be placed between it and the mounting frame to minimize the noise transmission. That won't help with the sound of flowing water.

Thanks @dadoes, I appreciate the potential diy fix but I’m going to hold out to see if @sprtphntc7a or anyone else gets back to me with an opinion if the noise seems normal. For a bramd new $7000 refrigerator with 2 years parts and service covered I’m going to hold off on my usual tinkering…

Yes, we do hear the water refill. Like you said it’s only for about 5 seconds. It is relatively quiet in my eyes & it lets me “know” that it’s working 😊
If you want any more info, lmk

I just listened to your video…with the freezer door closed, it’s less loud, if I am seeing your video correctly & if that makes sense.

Hi @sprtphntc7a, I am considering to get the CS 2092 which is an updated model of your CS 2082. Could you please tell me if you have any issue with the two French doors of your Liebherr? I saw the CS2092 in the showroom and found that under most FD fridges, this model does not have a flap to close off the gap between the two doors. Instead there seems to be something magnetic inside and along the edge of each door which attracts each other to close off the gap. I just wonder if this magnetic mechanism works well enough to seal the unit and keep the temperature. Any comments you can share would be much appreciated.

Just wanted to add my experience. I bought an sc7751 a few months ago. It is normally very quiet, but ever couple of days it can start humming loudly for a few hours (I measure 45db standing a couple of feet in front, and can here the hum from across the room). I found it quite annoying. Tech came out and said it is normal. So I’m quite disappointed. I’m currently looking into sound treatment solutions.

Rating for this model is 35db. So idk how this is normal
