Very pretty! I have several of the typical grocery store Mother's Day, Val Day, Easter roses in the garden now too. Some of them get quite large actually. I just love them.

Yours is quite the specimen!

When I bought this rose the flowers were tight little balls with lots of petals. It is much more attractive now and the flowers are larger, more open, and quite different. I suspect the plants are treated with some kind of hormone to make them bloom when quite small.

No they don't treat them. They're just small because the plants are newly rooted cuttings and they don't have the root ball big enough to support larger growth. Once in the ground the plant can really take off and grow the way it wants to. Yours is beautiful!

I second the previous comment. I often get miniatures for presents but they are so young that they often die before I can get it into the ground. They need to be treated like seedlings.

Miniature refers to the bloom size, not the bush size. Some of the mini bushes can be as large as regular roses.

So pretty! How tall and wide is it?

I like the rocks. Do you just pull them back to ammend and replace them or do you spread the granular stuff over the rocks and water in?

It is 18" tall and wide. I just dug a hole in the clay soil and planted it. There is landscape cloth under the rocks and the irrigation pipes under that. There is an emitter next to the base of the rose. Once a year I spray the entire landscape planting with MiracleGro fertilizer. All of my roses do well in this heavy clay soil. I do not try to grow big roses. The biggest are 'Golden Wings' and 'Therese Bugnet' (suckers all over the place). They get four feet tall after being cut back to a foot or so each spring.

Thanks. I don't know how big mine will get but I am hoping it stays pretty small. It didn't ever occur to me that it might grow into a huge bush.

Now I'm inspired to try my hand planting one of these...

It looked fine through June and was covered with blossoms but is now almost defoliated by black spot. Next year I will have to try a fungicide.

I have sprayed it a couple of times with a fungicide and it has recovered. It is not as large as it was this spring because I cut it back to a height of about 4 inches.

oh my god!! bouldergrower... is it really the one u get in a 4" pot at home depot?? its gorgeous!!! i am going to buy them! can i pot them in a 3 gallon pot to grow or start with smaller?

Right, it was in a 4" pot at Home Depot in the spring. I moved this one to a 1 gallon nursery pot outside for the summer and it did fine. In late summer I put it in the ground.

Here is a new one that was a Mother's Day gift from a daughter-in-law to my wife. It has been repotted and will be planted outside this fall.
