Moles are often seen here, gophers are not.

This is ugly. Do you guys do anything about it or just ignore them since they don't eat vegetables.

Pocket gophers are extremely common in more rural areas - my cat brings me a couple a week :-)

If the plants are untouched, it is a mole - gophers will eat plant roots and sometimes even an entire plant if small (like veggie starts/seedlings). You can just fill in and flatten the mounds they make. Moles are irritating but generally good for a garden. They aerate the soil and eat all manner of soil critters, including a lot of bad guys.

It's true that moles don't eat plants, but their tunnels can siphon water away from desirable plants.
Further, other small critters, among them voles, often use abandoned mole tunnels. These little fellows do eat plants.

I ignore them. Usually they've just made a mess. Last week though, it tunneled under some of my garlic just under the developing head, so that wasn't so nice (or that's what I'm assuming happened, since I had a couple that were not looking so good and there seemed to be a tunnel just underneath, so I am making some assumptions).

the same thing just happened to me. Lots of garlic plants fell over. I thought it was time to pull. It pulled one and it's not ready. The second day I saw the all the beets next to the garlics fell and the soil was raised. I should have laid the chicken wires before dumping the dirt in the bed.
