When I moved into my house in 2006, the northeast corner of the back yard was pretty messy, as you can see in the first picture.

I should have put the 3rd photo in the 2nd spot... that's how it looked last summer after I planted a few succulents in the little front border. The photo in the 2nd spot shows a close-up from last year, and the bottom two were taken this week.
