I'm no designer but I think you furniture placement is wrong. I'd put the new chair/side table under the window and move the sofa across from it or vise versa depending on the weight in the room. Turn the rug the other direction. The coffee table/storage unit is the wrong scale. I'd remove it and the little seat cushions and buy a leggy coffee table. Maybe even a bright metal table...in your accent color. Switch the pillows on the couch with those on the chair (two on couch, one on chair). The picture on the side table next to the chair is too big. Go smaller. The art work on the wall coming up the stairs is too far apart. Love the chandelier. It appears very neutral in color so try tossing a bright accent color in, a little something on the new leggy coffee table, an accent pillow in the same color, a piece of art in the entertainment center. Try that....see if it helps.

Thanks for the comment. It is a bi - level so the way the entertainment center is on is the only usable one. Behind my sofa is only a railing and the steps to the entryway of the house. Maybe I should move the chair and side table but then I feel like that part is empty. The picture frame is actually a digital picture frame that I had in my entertainment center, but you are right, too big.

There's no conversation area. No place to comfortably sit and talk to someone. Just a couch facing the the TV. I think that's why it looks awkward. If your house was built in the 70s or early 80s that room is supposed to be the living room and not have a tv. I mean, I live in a development built in that era and I think there is just no other way to read the floor plan.

Would you be able to tighten up the furniture paceman a bit?

How about putting blinds on the window, putting the sofa in front if the window? Center the entertainment center on the wall it is on, put the bench in front of the sofa, face the chair equidistant from the sofa on the other side of the bench. Put the end table and lamp on the side of the sofa farthest from the TV. See how that feels?

I think the rug may need to be turned and the sofa and chair should touch it. You need another end table and lamp for sofa, and another chair with table between.

Move the entertainment center further to the left. Put the sofa under the window and the new chair by its side so that when you or your guests walk in they see the back of the smaller chair not the sofa. Consider relocating the art work and removing the soft balance on the window.

Thank you for your comments. When we first moved in, there was no tv in this room. Now with my boys, we put one in. I never considered putting the sofa infront of the windows because the windows are low and I like alot of natural light in the room. We have a skylight, and that is the only over head lighting other then the light fixture in the entryway. The back of the sofa is high and I do hate seeing it as soon as you enter the house.

The room was probably meant to have the sofa on the wall with two chairs opposite it and a coffee table in between.

You need more lamps in there. There should be one on either side of the sofa and one by the chair. Most of my rooms have no overhead light at all. my house was built in the 70s.
