    Actually, hickory is low maintenance, because it is very hard. Perhaps you are referring to the "hand scraped" technique as high maintenance? If so most people vacuum this type of floor instead of sweeping. Given the fact that it is very hard I would consider this a very forgiving floor. Hickory will stand up to high traffic, as well as, pets!
