Looks like this plant is also known as Convolvulus compactus. I'm not sure if there are subspecies and varieties. Unfortunately, I haven't found a place that sells C. compactus. I'm looking for a Convolvulus compactus / boisierri that has silver fuzzy leaves. A lot of pictures show plants with small leaves. My aunt's plant had wide leaves that were longer but that might've been the result of watering it during the growing season. A long wide leaf or small short leaf is ok for me. Mainly, I'm looking for the silver fuzzy leaves.

Thank you, macronthos. I bought it from Sunscapes last Spring. I bought two. One of them died because I had some trouble watering them while in their pots. IMO, they should be planted as soon as possible. I couldn't decide where to plant the survivor. I over potted the plant with a gritty soil mix and mostly only water the upper layer of the mix. By doing that I maintain some moisture in the deeper layers so the plant doesn't dry out completely and it isn't over watered.

Too bad there isn't more activity in this forum. I'm interested in other rock garden and alpine plants.

I'm interested in the design and construction of rock gardens over collecting plants to put in them. You have to build it before you can decorate it. That includes contouring. Too many people plant the plants, and then place the rocks scattered about in a random manner with very little thought or knowledge.

I have only little left-over spaces to work in. I'm more interested in growing the plants than the design and decoration.

I have found that collector gardens are the most difficult to design. Too many different plants and not enough of one kind. It's hard to place them so they look like they belong.

One is not better than the other. Just two different ways to look at it is all.

I'm a sort of collector of Cryptomeria. I have them placed all over the place.
