My Mother is a property owner & both neighbors on both sides have all been once friends but 2007/8 her health became worse the ENTIRE neighborhood knows of my Mother's deteriorating health the fact my Dad left her in 2008 and I the only child relocated back to windsor to assist to no avail. Problem between the trumpet vine that grew over the fence and engulfulfed the suface of the enitre back yard making it i.possible to mow of course then further destroyed a new deck the neighbors on the other side Yuka Yuka tree has threw my Moms front porch 2 trees and many other smaller trees all over the front yard making it impossible to control the roots on the the trumpet vine & yuka yuka tree make the yard appear a jungle as well the neighbors with the trumpet vine have a red maple and a female n male green maple on their proerty with the keys falling between the trumpet vine that covers the entire ground so you cant walk I have green and red maples about 50 between 5-1years old. My Mother is on CPP and I myself am not rich or in good enough health nor do I have the half million in equipment or any help. PLEASE HELP

Is the trumpet vine from your mom's yard or the neighbor's? If it is in your mom's yard, cut it to the ground and then paint the stumps with concentrated glysophate or other brush killer of your choice. Be sure to follow any safety directions. As soon as any green sprouts appear, pull them off. You can do the same with any little trees in the yard. Then start mowing and keep mowing on a regular basis to keep things under control. If the trumpet vine is in the neighbor's yard and growing into yours, cut it off at ground level or where it crosses into your yard, dispose of the vine, and just mow the lawn. Check out your town ordinances. In many areas you are allowed to cut off any branches from trees on the neighboring properties that come into your yard, but I don't know if that's true where you are. The vine you should be able to clip back to the property line regardless.

Sorry for not being specific my Mother's had both neighbors since 1985 both are well aware of my Dad leaving the fact she hasnt been healthy enough to walk more than 5 steps unassisted since 08/9 and the trumpet vine they planted and let knowingly Engulf the entire surface area of my Mom's back yard which was a a $65,000 lot now the trumpet vine is about 3 feet thick and destroyed a deck 40x60 with it's largest root diameter that broke threw the middle of the deck at roughly 6inches I'd love to send a snap shot as there is NOT 1 planted maple tree by my Mom or Dad when the house was purchased but between the trumpet vine engulfing the ground it is not possible to WALK every foot or 2 there's a green and red maple tree some are 25feet and 5years old and every tree at the base is surrounded by Yuka yuka sprouts their roots are like mr noodles underground as I have a heart condition was in another town for the last 3yrs as this problem flourished with both neighbors know and admit the growth as a free estimate from the Weed Man was 7 THOUSAND $ & my Mother has been very ill she has CPP & odsp has to be moved into a facility and due to neighbors plants and I have pictures of my Mother my Son in the back yard with marigold daffodils mums NO VINE NO MAPLES NO YUKKA YUKA trees and now she cannot even sell the property so she may have human treatment in a nice home nope because of the neighbors trumpet vine maples n other neighbors yuka yuka tree both the front back yard have decreased my elderly terminally ill Mothers property by FIFTY THOUSAND $ISH SAYS THE REAL ESTATE AGENT that wished me luck and stated he would pray for me.

Did I mention these neighbors asked me during visits was my Mom ok ect. They own a front loader excavator ECT THEY HAVE THE MEANS AS BUSINESS OWNERS they have lots if $ & spend hours daily on their yard. You are confusing some issues. Your neighbors have a right to these vines, etc. on their property, but you also have a right to remove them on YOUR (your mother's) property. Unfortunately, it seems that these should have been taken care of in the early stages but now have become quite the burden. The fact that the vine might be holding up their fence is THEIR problem. These plantings have obviously created a very unfavorable situation for your mother, and the neighbors must realize that (or they can live in denial). I would make a call to your town hall and ask about laws that prevent you from cutting foliage/roots, etc. that travel from your neighbors yards, so you are informed.

You can have a frank discussion with them and try and leave the emotions out of it...Tell them that they have taken over your mother's yard, destroyed the deck, and reduced the value of her house by $50,00. Ask for their help. If you cannot do this in person due to high emotions, address a short letter to them, and ask their help in taking care of what has traveled from their yard to yours. If the neighbors are unwilling to do anything about helping you remove these or pay for the removal (which I'm guessing they probably wont just from what you said in your post), perhaps you could appeal to your church and ask if there is anyone who woudl be willing to come with a chain saw, etc and do a little work to help your mom out.

I think most of what I have said is along the same lines as BabsNH (rereading her post). I understand you are understandably upset and feel at a loss as to how to start to care for this. You might find someone to hire that will be reasonably priced if you cannot find someone at church to volunteer. Ask around.

Looks like you do have a big problem on your hands, and it's so unfortunate that your mom was unable to afford yard maintenance over the years. With regular lawn and yard maintenance this never would have happened, regardless of what your neighbors had planted in their yards, so, although I know this is probably not what you want to hear right now, it's not really your neighbors' fault that your mom's yard is in such terrible shape. I'm on a very low income myself and I have to regularly clear the fence line between myself and my neighbor's yard to maintain order, and occasionally when I'm unable to do it myself, I have to pay a yard guy to help. As frustrating as this is for you, that's just part of the costs and responsibilities that come with owning a home, and unfortunately due to all of your and your mom's hardships, y'all weren't able to do regular yard maintenance and so things just got out of hand. I think the first thing to do is stop blaming your neighbors because you sound a little unhinged and that will get you nowhere. Val and Babs had good advice...a church or community group would very likely be willing to help you if you calmly explain your plight. Or maybe even a garden club...can you go online and look up clubs in your area? Gardeners are good people...they may be willing to help you out!! Especially if you offer them to take any treasures or cuttings that they might find in there haha! And if you do have to pay an hourly wage for someone to come in and start clearing, remember what I said about owning a home...it does cost money (even when we don't have any to spare!). I'm sorry this has been so hard for you and I hope you are able to find some help...you are very good to be looking after your mom!
