Ruth, I am not an expert at all. I posted a picture of what I thought was a Sarah Bernhardt (older peony, somewhat common), and found out that there are so many kinds of peonies and if you haven't grown that particular kind of peony, it's sometimes hard to i.d. Often, regular posters wait for someone who has grown something similar to yours to answer an i.d. request. I had good luck finding mine on a reputable peony retail website and the tentatively positive i.d. came here a few days later. By the way, your peony is beautiful.

Does it have sidebuds? How tall is the plant and can you post pictures of the foliage?

I have considered whether it might be Edulis Superba or Big Ben, but I think Edulis Superba is a lighter pink and Big Ben is too tall. It must be some variety that is widely available at ho-hum garden centers. I've considered Karl Rosenfeld, but again, too red. Perhaps Felix Crouse?

Ummm... it does have a fragrance but it's not very strong. Is that something that can vary from plant to plant?

Yes. I read that it has a subtle, sweet fragrance. My Sarah Bernhardt has a spicy fragrance.
