papaya grows pretty easy from seed. nice tropical looking plant. might not fruit inside, or, it wont taste good.. groc store fruit works great for me. pop the skin around the seed (aril) and use a mix of sand/compost (worm castings help too)... 80F is better to germinate, but you should get some in the mid-70s also, just a lower percent. mango should last a couple years inside as well

I live in zone 7b with no plans on ever moving further south. I grow a lot of plants from seeds and lucky for me I live between two large fruit markets (one Asian and one Hispanic & Asian). I have started plenty of stuff by just sowing the seeds that come with the fruits I buy. My intention is to see if I can keep it alive for years and then spring for a grafted variety via mail order. Guavas grow easily and quickly from seed, but the fruit varies widely from what the parent fruit looked and tasted like. Strawberry Guavas grow almost as easily but take a bit longer to start holding fruit (they will flower when very young) and they come true from seed. Papayas do fine but you need a greenhouse in order to overwinter them or else you'll never see ripe fruit. I've got a few Cherimoyas but only one of them flowers well and so far has never produced a fruit. Tamarillo or Tomate de Arbol does fine for me but works best with a greenhouse - they tend to bloom in late winter for me. In my collection I also have a Sapodilla, a Jaboticaba, a Avocado, a monster big Longan, a Litchi, a White Sapote, a Suriname Cherry, Indian Fig Cactus, a Key Lime (that always has fruit!), some Grumichamas and some Rainforest Plums. You might want to double check to see if you will even be allowed to bring in your fruit trees if you are moving to Florida or California. I know they have restrictions on stuff going out so they may also restrict what is coming in.

California definitely restricts what plant material comes into the state. In fact when crossing into California there are agricultural checkpoints where you must surrender your plant material. California produces $40 billion worth of agriculture annually, and that must be protected from pests and diseases.
