hardwood flooring colour?

we are building a new home really love the dark hardwood flooring but concerned about the cleaning and maintenance of the dark flooring?
Anyone had them and what was your experience?

Even in cork flooring, we have noticed that our "espresso" coloured floors, that were once our most popular 2 years ago are now "out of fashion". We are wholesale-ing these to the public at cost! Even then, we can't get rid of them! Europe hasn't used these colours for 4 years.

I would suggest looking at a "medium" depth floor. One that has all the colour shades of the expresso but with only half as dark. Once those colours are in your space, they will get darker. What you thought was a "medium" shade in the well light show room, will turn DARK in hallways, doorways, etc. You will get the same effect but without the "dating' issue mentioned by Maria.

All of these photos are from "medium" floors. Some people even believe they are "medium-light". Yet in a space they darken considerably.

It will show dust and hair(if you have cats). Daily cleaning with microfiber mop will help. Followed by floor cleaning with designated cleaner once a wk-once a month depending on traffic.
I have maple which is almost white. It shows everything! At least with dark you wont see spills and stains. Just the dust.
I say go for it. If its what you want, just accept the fact that they will show the dust.
Would not go cheap pre finished in a dark color though. That will show the scuffs and scratches as well!

Last year I had Dark hardwood installed and now I regret it. I'm constantly cleaning them. Also they scratch easily. They are beautiful but you have been forewarned.

Thats why I dont recommend pre finished dark floors. If you get dark floors, have them finished with a premium 2 component water based finished.

I don't recommend dark floors either, unless you live alone and with a dust mup in every room. They are a maintenance nightmare.

This example is probably as dark as I would go if I was picking wood flooring.

If you install espresso brown flooring it will instantly date your house 10 years because that trend is already over. Not to mention the life designed around dusting it.
