Is that a vent that opens over the cook-top on the island?

    Hello bgal2525,


    The hood that is in the island is a vent for the cook-top, however it does not open up. The air just gets pulled into the slats and through the vent to the outside.     Does anyone have feedback on this style of ceiling vent? We have low ceilings and would like to use one over our island. I'm concerned though that there would be grease buildup around the edges on the drywall of the ceiling. Our family cooks a lot...so it would be in use often.
