One option is to apply a solution of gibberellic acid every 2 days to the leaf buds, which can help promote the breaking dormancy, and partially compensate for lack of accumulated chill if that was a problem.

I've posted here about my 20th century Asian pear which is having the same problem. It was planted 16 months ago and sprouted many leaves, then dropped them all in about Oct. It broke dormancy long after everything else had flowered and leafed out. Long enough for me to suspect it was dead. It finally put out a few clusters of leaves toward the beginning of april so I knew it was alive. It has done nothing since. Several branches with great looking leaf buds but no leaves. The leaves that had grown are healthy looking, maybe a little cupped. There is one more bud that looks to be pushing a leaf out in the last few days. I was thinking about hitting it with some miracle grow in diluted form (nitrogen) to see if it spurred any growth. Full blown summer is about to hit and if this little sucker doesn't get more leaves on it, the sun will roast the trunk.

@fireballsocal, sounds like what I'm having with my pear tree.

I wanted to update this thread. I used a slightly diluted miracle grow dose in a gallon of water, watering in the entire gallon at the roots. Miracle grow was what I had on hand that had a high amount of nitrogen. 7 days later and there are many swelling buds that show green color promising new foliage. It may have been the miracle grow, it may have been a coincidence but the tree looks to be putting out much new foliage.

It sounds like I need to put in some miracle grow too:) hopefully it won't burn the tree.

Thanks so much for your suggestion and updates. I applied some plant tone last week and finally saw some new leaves. Very surprised to find out that pear tree needs additional fertilizers to put out new leaves. Yours looked great now.

You and me both! This is planted in a line with 7 other varieties of stone fruit. They are all flourishing without extra nitrogen. I have used a monthly application of grow power flower and bloom 3-12-12 so there is plenty of everything but low nitrogen. Since I knew the grow power would supply everything else, it could only be nitrogen that my tree lacked. Glad your tree is showing some progress.

We planted a Asian Pear tree in February. It is crafted with 4 pears. tree doesn’t have any leafs. I scratched the grafts and there is green. Suggestions
