So I have the world's ugliest kitchen floor (debatable, but let's move on). I will be painting my cabinets a dark bold grey color to really make the white counters really pop. However, I can't find a floor that I like that works well. I like the rustic-contemporary look, so a dark wood really appeals to me. Unfortunately, there is a transition in my kitchen doorway (no door-narrow arch) where I think a wood-wood meeting might look terrible. I've been considering polished concrete, or some stone, but I don't want it to be too modern or even too contemporary. Any suggestions? I really like the general look in the pic below, although something a little less modern would be ideal:
