Worms love corn! people say that the worms will deposit cocoons right in the spots where the kernels sat but i have never seen it keep an eye on it lol

They like slightly rough things, like burlap, cardboard and these corncobs for laying eggs because the roughness helps them to deposit the cocoons.

Will they eat the whole thing or just the outer bits?

They do not eat the entire cob, in my experience. They wrap themselves around it so cocoon material makes sense to me. After a while, I toss the cob into the compost bin.

If you have a way to grind it up, they will eat the whole thing.

As others have said if you leave it in there long enough they should be able to get rid of it, but I found when all the goodie from cob is gone the worms leave it , not something I put in very often. I much prefer melon rinds as they will use the whole thing. On watermelon I cut up into small pieces and freeze it till Im ready to give them some. Its about the only thing I freeze for worms.
