Help with Privacy and Window Treatments Two-Story Window

Moved into this house a year ago and haven't been able to furnish it, hence the random piece of furniture and a swatch of paint on the wall. We loved "all the light"of the huge windows along the back of the house- unfortunately we didn't think it through when the lots behind us started to be filled. This room in particular is the most complicated for me. Aside from the half fireplace which I don't understand, I don't know what to do with this giant window. After moving in, the home behind us was built. Now, when looking out the window and when entering the house, all you see is this house behind us. So now it's a great 'picture window' view of the neighbors. Worse, the second story is open, so on the second level, the view, again, is this house. And, I am sure, especially at night, we are on display for them. The only solutions I seem to come up with are either covering up the entire window somehow (though I can't figure out what would look good) or literally attempting to plant a forest (though that would take too long?) I don't know what to do and need suggestions!!!! Help! Frustrated.

Hi,

I was thinking that planting pencil trees and bushes could be half the solution, but I would talk to a landscaper for some ideas.

As far as window treatment is concerned, you could do "silhouette" or "duette" cellular blinds from hunter douglas. They are fabric but cellular so they could provide insulation, black out lining if you wanted or privacy lining as well. They have an option to be automated and they will have a remote control that can control up to 6 blinds individually and all at once. That remote, from what I remember, will be available in July or August.

The 2 small windows and 1 large window at the top could have the cellular blinds and I would leave the middle row open, then do blinds on the bottom 3 windows.

You also have an option of top-down or down-up, so you can even have the blinds go up from the bottom and open at the top like the photo I'm attaching so that you still get the light through and have the privacy you want at the same time.

The biggest reason why I love cellular blinds from Hunter Douglas is that they still provide light when they are closed.

Thank you so much Arlene for the suggestions! Would you suggest using the same blinds for the lower windows too- or could I do something different and/or incorporate drapes somehow?

I'm glad you found my advice helpful!

You could do the same ones for the lower windows too. If you want draperies, I would suggest stationary side panels that will stay in place instead of traversing ones.
