You really seem to want a tree that will probably not reach the height you want in your lifetime. Seriously. They do really well in colder areas though. It takes about 40 years just for the tree to get the nuts. I would not go with that tree.

For trees that are native to where you live, and are proven performers for coastal south carolina soil and weather, consider one of the following

Longleaf pine (sandy soil), Loblolly Pine, (you can plant under the tall pine trees and they give shade to your dogwoods. Then there are the Oaks, Scarlet Oak, Southern Red Oak, Laurel Oak, (sandy soil), and Live Oak.

I have many oaks because I have a couple acres and they grow well here, I know I have live oaks, not sure about the Laurel oak, we probably do our soil is very sandy.

Live oaks are ever green, which is nice, and they give wonderful shade. Have you ever seen the oldest tree east of the mississippi? It's right outside of Charleston and it's a live oak.

Good luck with your search. Try to get something a decent size so you can enjoy it within your lifetime.

A hybrid poplar tree would grow very fast but it has some low limbs that will need pruning unless you like it that way. But they have large leaves so they are easy to rake up. I planted 2 of them 25 years ago, and they grew very fast. They were over 20' tall within 6 years, I moved out of that house at that time, but they are huge now. I planted them 40' apart and they are shading the whole house now. I drive past them occasionally when visiting friends. But I am in 7-b upstate SC so they may do better here or maybe there? I would think they would grow faster there.

Cuttings root very easy and grow fast also. I gave a few cuttings to a friend and he just stuck them in the ground and they took off! If you are interested in them I can stop by the new owners and ask for a cutting or two and mail them to you? I don't know them, but most folks around here are glad to help.
