I bought these plants for my front flower bed and when I bought them the lady who helped me , helped put them in an order for me, but it doesn't look good..I'm stuck. I'm open to ditching some plants and replacing with others...I have 9 box wood, 5 iris, 4 variegated privets(tallish whisky looking plant)5 lorapetulum(maroon shrub)

The privet isn't my favorite foundation planting. It would be better suited somewhere you need to obscure the view. You can place one on the far right corner where it has a little more room to spread out. I'd put 3 loropetalum in a triangle shape between the two windows. I'd plant three boxwood extending out from each side under the windows. Put 1 iris in the far left corner and two in front of each grouping of boxwood. Your bed is too small right now to accommodate all the purchased plants. Leave space between plants for growth. If after you space these recommendations, you still have additional room toward the ends, you can add a boxwood/loropetalum to each existing row of three boxwoods.

You definitely need less plants. You haven't left any space for them to grow. There should be tags on the plants that tell you how much space they need.

I like my gardens to be planted with an abundance of plants. However you still need to give them space to grow! Definatey as suggested figure out what the plants will grow to before you put them in!

Need an alternate approacn? Move the pots and see how you like it.

    a. evenly space the boxwood across the center of your bed, beginning at the left edge of the left window to the right edge of the right window.

    b. place two iris and three lorapetalum between the boxwood and the front door, and three iris and two loropetalum at the far right of the boxwoods, iris in back of the lorapetalum.

    c. the privet will be in a new bed along the property line with your neighbor.

    d. fill the front bed with groundcovers and bulbs of all seasons, so that in two years time you will see no soil, only handsome textures and bright flowers.

    e. put a small tree over by the privet to screen the view from your front door to their front door.

How does that look? Good - start planting and water well for two weeks.

Great ideas! The iris is taller than the lorapetulum and boxwood so shouldn't they go behind?

Also why does no one like the privet in the front? I got the lorapetulum to be next to the privet. Thought the colors look nice near each other. Is the privet just not a good plant for the front?

The privet could go between the windows with the loropetalum, to get the color combination you want. Keep the landscape low in front of the windows, and be prepared to trim the shrubs.

Read the tags that came with the plants for they're height and width at maturity, if the information is not there google the plants. Keep this in mind a move them around to get the look you like. Then plant.

Young private hedge and established privet hedge. You need to listen to advice and check the width and height of your plants. Good luck.
