HI -- Nice new kitchen ... lucky you ! Well there are a lot of exciting things you could do . You could cover all the remaining bare wall with a quilted stainless steel panels or just have a sheet of stainless steel behind the stove and tile the rest of the area . You could do a fabulous tile . I can see a chevron pattern in marble tiles or a tile that looks like marble . Or you could use the same material as the counter tops . Or you could use a long shallow subway tile (3x12 ) in porcelain or glass tile in a stacked pattern . Or there are concrete tiles in a Moroccan patterns . Or you could do back painted tempered glass . I would think about tiling the whole backsplash and wall behind and above all the cabinets , for the drama . One thing and it may just be the picture but that right wall looks very crooked , is it ???

Take a look at Heath Ceramics in SF. This photo is similar to what you have going on in your kitchen. I always look at resale value when clients ask me for advice. These tile are distinct in style and shape and recognizable so hopefully the next buyer will appreciate them. Not that you would sell but it's always nice to see the cost of the remodel translate to an increase in home value.

Here is a picture of the range (we will take the exhaust right up to the ceiling) and the window wall is an asymmetric, as you can see the turn in the wall under the range hood. It takes the visual focus to the forest rather then our driveway. Any advice on if we should use a continuous back splash or something different by the range would be appreciated. We considered tempered glass, and I love the little grey subway tiles, the heath ceramic would go along well with our modern theme, great suggestions so far! thanks everyone.

With this cool black kitchen I Think it World be cool with a bright color for he wall or even go big and select a silver metal backsplash :-)
I myself just changed the look in my kitchen - I live in Scandinavia and Found a cheap solution in IKEA
I'm not sure the products are to be Found in their American warehouses
