Is it worth taking a chance?

My daughter is moving and gave me her Pfaff 1212 which I had given her long ago. My sewing machine (a Kenmore embroidery machine) suddenly stopped and I had replaced it with a Singer before JoAnn fabric store packed up and left. I had recently had it worked on and the man said these machines (which had been manufactured in Viet Nam) were all plastic and were just held together with screws. I am fairly sure that this Pfaff is metal, so am thinking of getting an estimate to get it cleaned and put in working order. Have any of you had experience with something like this and think the Pfaff would be worth the cost? So often you can't get parts and I don't have an instruction book. Thanks for any imput. Barb
