Sunflowers?

last modified: 11 years ago

I bought giant sunflower seeds retail last year and they grew ENORMOUS. I say that because even in the world of enormous sunflowers, mine did particularly well, but they were my first ones and I have beginners luck with everything :). 14' tall with leaves 2 feet across. So that worked out well. The heads when ripe and dried on the flower gave a substantial harvest, probably about 2.5 lbs of seeds per flower.

This year I wanted a repeat of last year so I grew 5 offspring from last years harvest. They're only between 3-4 feet tall and already they're beginning to flower. Does anyone know why?
