Not really, but I tried one today - will let you know if it works in a few days. Festiva Maxima is more complicated case.
Generally change water daily and cutting stems a little bit on regular basis... I try to keep tap water for 24 hours before using it, not always available, though.
Someone recommended a spoon of lemon juice, some sugar and bleach... Since I did not have bleach and lemon juice I decided on a substitution.

I haven't tried any cut from "soft marshmallow" stage. I have read that cutting peonies at this stage keep the peonies good for a week in the vase provided that you change the water everyday.

Hi Lis, I think pretty much all herbaceous peonies will last longer in vase than in the garden if cut at the right stage, not only your windy location. I have not tried Itoh yet. And Karen, I vote that cutting them in bud vs open flower makes a huge difference. Are we running of topics in peony forum? :)

My peonies are done so I don't have much to say about them. Except right now I am trying to plan for fall by moving things around and giving peonies away to clear space for new ones. THis spring was not a good bloom season for me. With the hot humid weather, I believe that I have a bad case of botrytis. The botrytis is affecting my roses severely. My peony foliage are ok at this time but I am looking to cut them down early this year, mid August is my plan to do this.

Next year, my project will focus on cut peonies. I would love to do an experiment on storing cut peonies for use later. In case you are interested, there is an excellent article by Don Hollingsworth on how to cut and store peonies. Here is the link:
