I think the biggest change you could make would be to get a new front door, in a simpler design. I would also change the white trim to a darker color. The new lights will look nice. You could make some changes to the sidewalk-- maybe flagstones or pavers surrounded by gravel?

Paint the brick.

I would also recommend a different style front door. I would not paint the brick unless you want to keeping doing it...lots of upkeep required.

When I think of Asian I think gates and entry arches. Change the door and near the street start of your walkway add an Asian arch.

Wow! I didn't even recognize my own house! Very nice work. We don't want to paint the brick but it's not off the table. A new front door is on our list for sure.

Anybody have any experience with the "wet look" concrete sealer? I like the way it looks but worry about it being slick with a young child running around. I also have seen a solution you add to it to make it more rough for a better grip. Any thoughts?

Red brick is not a common building material in Japan. If you don't want the upkeep of painted brick you could side the house in Hardiplank with color throughout (eg doesn't need painting).

I have used the H&C "Wet Look" sealer over a stamped concrete patio for the past seven years. It has to be re-applied every few years and the product gives a sheen but not high gloss. We have not noticed it being slippery (wet or dry) but you can add a slip-resistent additive to help alleviate any potential issues.

Red brick and tile was all over Korea, as was grey granite (apparently the whole country is sitting on a huge granite mass), and a dark basalt.

So unless "Asian" has to be "Japanese" you can keep the brick.

I agree with lazy gardens. The red brick is fine.

We stained and sealed some of our concrete. It is a bit more slippery when wet, but not horribly so. I wouldn't run on it wet, especially if there are any moisture holding depressions. SoCalif isn't wet all that often; in other climates, I would look into the additive.
