Solar shades

We recently moved to a townhouse w/south & west exposures. I have seen Solar Shades in commercial use but never in a private residence. If anyone has had them installed, I would appreciate any comments relating to their efficiency, transparency, and general performance. Thank you.

I have been installing them in clients homes for years they are great but they do not provide privacy at night so you will still need drapery for night time. They will however allow you to see out in the daytime and keep the UV and heat out of your space.

agreed. I'm fine with them for night in living room or kitchen, in a bedroom or bath you need another layer for privacy.

they're great for Sun protection, my kitchen faces full west and now I am not blinded cooking dinner but can still see the pool and trees in the backyard and the kitchen isn't a crypt all summer with blinds closed.
