Need advice on exterior update

New house (to us). In desperate need of exterior update. We like the stone chimney and size of the windows. Thought we might try for a mid-century modern look. I would like suggestions for colour, lighting and potential landscaping ideas. Need something for a quick fix for now and ideas for more extensive work for later. Thoughts ?

I included the pic with snow so you can see how awful the siding colour looks with the white snow!

How about dark gray for the color of the exterior and garage door? Then maybe adding a vibrant color like red or yellow for your door instead of the dull white-tan color combo. You should definitely change your lighting to something that stands out more but it should be warm lighting so that it doesn't get too overwhelming. As for landscaping, keep things low because in the winter, it looks like a ton of snow to deal with. So replace the giant bushes with smaller ones that you know won't grow as big. That plot in the middle of the yard can be your place of colorful flowers. Place some mulch or rocks down so that you're not just staring at dirt. Perhaps get a post light for the yard as well. Hope this helps give you an idea!

Have you thought about redoing the landscaping?

I like the low established evergreen mass, and suggest you do not disturb it, even if the drift of snow falling off the roof breaks some branches - it will heal itself, after you cut away the damaged parts.

My concern is what the view is from the corner windows, that dominate the facade. If they are just viewing the neighborhood and the street, consider planting a small horizontally branching tree or two to filter that view. Something like a flowering dogwood or star magnolia, tucked in to the outside edges of the bed.

You might consider replacing the window drapes with curtains that display your sense of style and color, to great your guests, and make them smile, as they approach your door.

The whole house with the exception of the almond coloured siding and chimney stone is that orangey-yellow brick. Short of painting it, I think I'm stuck with it and would like to find paint colours that will minimize the impact on the front facade. Someone mentioned a dark gray .....I like that idea and wonder about specifically what colour? The roof is a grayed out brown and the eaves and downspouts are brown.

Use the darker color from the stone for the siding and trim. If you don't like the orange tone, you might whitewash the stone. I don't know if there is a brown wash that would allow the character of the stone to show through. Valspar makes a charcoal brown paint called Urban Pulse that might work with your brown/gray roof. I think it is an interior color but a direction to think about for the siding and trim. Most companies will custom blend colors for you in any of their paints.

You could paint the brick and keep the stone fireplace unpainted. I like the idea of gray
