What do you do when receiving new succulent orders?

Hi everyone! Im new to succulents. I've spent a substantial amount of time combing through the forums to get an idea of what I should buy/get/order to ensure my plants are happy.

But I STILL have a few questions-

When you order new succulents online what do you do when you first get them? Do you put them in quarantine to ensure they're okay?
I've also read online that some people spray/soak the roots with a hydrogen peroxide and water mix 1:3, to get rid of bugs etc, is this a good idea?

What are good sources of succulent purchases (and terrible ones to avoid)? I'm currently eyeing haworthia's, echeveria's, sedums, crassulas, etc etc mostly squishy type sans spines.

Do you water your succulents overhead or around the perimeter of the pot? Do you soak your pots or gently mist? Do you prefer plastic or clay pots ?

Thanks so much for all your help :D!

You water around the perimeter because if you water head over the succulent the crown might store the water and cause rot

For the pot it depends on the succulent

Sorry that i cant help with the rest

if you're "just starting out," i wouldnt even bother ordering stuff online before you start learning about how different plants react to your climate and care. you'll kill something eventually, and imo better it be something you spent $2 on from home depot than something you spent $10+$10 shipping on...

I soak my pots bc I'm lazy and it's easy: I can just stick them in my watering and do something else until I remember to take them out (i do try and flush the soil every once in a while as well, though). IMO misting won't really achieve anything, because itll take forever to fully soak the soil and in the process you'll wet the plant, which people try to avoid bc it can lead to rot.

you'll hear a lot of split opinions on clay vs plastic, but plenty of ppl use both and have great plants either way. IMO, as long as you have a drainage hole, youre probably fine.

Thanks for the advice! I guess the reason I ask about misting vs soaking is because when I visited a friend in SB who was growing succulents (very successfully at that), she mentioned she never, ever, watered her plants... It goes against all that I've read online. At night a dense fog rolls in and come morning time everything is covered in water, which is I guess how they get their water....

I've been growing orchids for years, but succulents have piqued my interest.... I'll see if any big box stores carry specific plants Im looking for first before seeking them out online.

Would you all say there is a learning curve with succulents? Difficult or easier to deal with?

    Thanks :)

Do you water your succulents overhead or around the perimeter of the pot? In natural environments the saying goes When it rains it rains sometimes it pours when it rains Yes the tops and foliage is going to get wet. I find it's best to let them air dry during the cooler summer nights not in the midst of warmer brighter sun.

Do you soak your pots or gently mist? Asked in two parts. If and when I mist then they get a good drained through soaking during the mist. What I do while misting is attempt to simulate a rain shower depending on plant and pot size the misting simulated rain storm can last for a few seconds to a couple seconds

Soaking At times yes AKA filling the tank, any formal or non formal soil need to be flushed as often as it can be done but is usually infrequent usually best dome if the time(s) is/are right.

Do you prefer plastic or clay pots ? I use plastic, clay terracotta, cheap Chinese ceramics big box store ceramics, hand made high fired pots. IMO and possible to be fact no pot can help or make any plant grow better or healthier. Any type of pot with an area filled with air on the bottom will do.
