How to drain dishes on a marble worktop?

Hi,

After a lot of consideration I decided to go with Carrara marble worktops in my new kitchen. I do however not have a dishwasher and I am not quite sure how to best handle drying dishes on the marble surface. Can any of you recommend drainers that protect the worktop? Or am I being paranoid and the water won't actually do that much damage to the stone? Really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I love these drying mats. You could put a dish drain on top of one. I prefer the larger size, 18"x24", I believe.

I'm going for marble too. I'm going to have a big butler sink and a drainer like the following. Probably wood as I think it has less potential to scratch the marble. What type of sink are you going for?

Same here, a butler sink (overmounted). Thanks so much for your response, not seen these drainers before but seems like a good option! Put a couple of anti scratch / anti skid pads underneath and the marble will be fine I think.

I have marble counters and opted to get a 70/30 sink. I wash in the 70 side which is sizeable and have my drying dishes in the 30 side. I have a Blanco undermount silgranite sink. We bought a metal thing that of course I can't think of the name of now, that sits on the bottom of the sink that is like a dish drainer. On the occassions where I've had tons of dishes, I'll put out a big dish towel or two on the counters and stack them there while I wash and then dry and put them away. Then wipe the counters really well. I wouldn't want to do this on a daily basis though. At our old house we did marble tile counters (we knew we were selling) and I had a Kohler 60/40 porcelain sink and did the same thing. I could fit more to dry on the 40 side (not a ton more), but it also was harder to wash things than with my current sink. It's amazing how that little bit more room makes my arrangement so much more functional :).

Thanks, Ashley! Sigh..I wish I had a double bowl sink ;) The space and layout in my kitchen forced me to go with a single bowl. Useful feedback anyway, though. Luckily I'm a neat freak and prepared to do a lot of cleaning, drying, tidying away...which I guess you almost have to be if you choose marble.

Yes, I just got one of those dish drying mats and I really like it, too. So much better than putting a dishtowel on the counter when you are doing a big batch of hand washables. I got the Norpro 16 x 18. It folds up when and goes in a drawer when I don't need it.

There is also a rolled out drying rack that fits over your sink. Check earlier threads.

I love those drying mats. I have two because one is always in use and I wanted to be able to alternate.

They're cheap and unobtrusive. I got a grey one whicblends in with my soapstone.
