I would paint the bed wall green and then continue the green around the room as a stripe, with a dark blue stripe above and below on the 3 other walls, as you see in the photo below. I would keep the light tan background on the other walls.

What about the blue in the Superman poster on his wall? I'd lose the valances - too dainty - and, as the bed looks black, hang black poles with heavy white linen/burlap curtains with red band trim. They will break up the blue.

He needs a night table with lamp in the corner next to his bed.....even square plastic. Yellow lamp for fun....or white lamp with a yellow shade.

How do i decorate an 11 yr old boys bedroom? what colours do i use and what colours and type od beddings do i use? He loves football a lot can i draw any inspiration from that? His room is currently dark and has not much furniture as it is small. He even finds it hard to sleep in there as it is unispiring. Could you please help me Carolyn?

Hi, I like the idea of a "Superhero" themed bedroom. I would pick out a colour from the existing posters (I like the Superman blue) and paint the wall behind the bed in that, the other walls could stay the same or a much paler blue. Then use some large decals (Amazon have some great ones, link below) of Superheros, maybe one either side of the bed. I would lose the chair, footstool and old wooden cabinet and go with the feel of the bed frame and bookcase for a desk and chair.
Amazon also do a Superman valance (second link) and Spiderman throw/rug (third link).
All of the above is removable as and when he grows out of superheros!

I would suggest being very careful when going with a themed bedroom for a young child. Superhero's may be the favorite today, but tomorrow it might be planes, trains and automobiles. When my son was 10 years old, he told me 'Power Rangers are not a fad'.

Keep all your big ticket items (furniture, etc.) neutral, and just change accessories as he grows. It's cheaper and easier to change linens, accessories and window treatments than it is to constantly re-paint, etc.

November Rain from Benjamin Moore is a great neutral green colour for a boys room. It blends well with blues and reds and will allow you the flexibility to transition as he matures.

You should check into wall murals. They have all kinds and are easy to put up.

A grey green or sage green would be nice on the walls. Also a blue grey would be nice also.

I did my sons room with 2 facing walls a beige and the other two shorter facing walls a red. He was into Star Wars for awhile and also superheroes and its been nice since the walls are contrasting to just change the posters and accessories as he grows up and changes his interests. We got some nice wall decals of the superheroes at Target and they peeled off easily and didn't ruin the paint at all. I used a dark wood curtain rod and hung red drapes. I do agree that a bedside nightstand is a must, as he gets older he will be reading more and you can find inexpensive but nice looking lamps anywhere. Have fun with it and let him help!

Actually, in my original comment I meant to paint ALL the walls the Superman-poster blue, but not too young-looking, as he WILL be growing older! I think that blue, with heavy white curtains would be a good base for a room to grow in. As time goes on, his sports memorabilia and awards will have a nice backdrop......

How about painting a huge square behind the bed and paint contrasting colors as a border around the square, then paint the hayden letters in different colors. I would try blue and red on the wall bedhind the bed. Also you could do the same banding treatment around the windows as well! Good luck!

I painted my young son's room bright and primary and we all loved it. Now that he is 12 we have painted in a blue that over time can be accessorized to be more sophisticated young man with chrome etc.

the room is beautifull.. even the color walls and curtains! Don't change it.. it's neutral and great to a kid it's growing! i think you just have to paint the bed in the blue color he likes and let him choose some bed linen with some theme.. as the time will pass you can allways change it, and he will allways love his room, without spending too much.. =) good luck & have fun!

Leave the color on the walls. Buy new super hero bedding, add a blue night stand, red or yellow lamp. A blue rug on the floor. Add a lot of super hero action figures ect... I love the black bed, change the drapes. Maybe a cool puffy chair to sit in for reading that is closer to the floor. Kids love fun and funky. Go wild and have fun! Your only a kid for a short time.

I would go with the bright lime green that is in the background of the poster on the lower left. This would be a more complimentary color with the wood in the bed frame and headboard.
This color works well with the neutral of the carpet and the existing tan on the walls should you decide you only need one accent wall color.
I would play down the red accent color in the furniture and bedding and let it pop in the artwork.

I think the bedding and walls are beautiful as is. I would buy Pottery Barn Kids navy blackout curtain panels (hang them near the ceiling) and remove the toppers. Get a superhero accent pillow for the accent chair.

My boys room has similar furniture colors to yours. Dark chestnut beds/nightstands and a red bench/cubby. My son also asked for blue walls (as well as red curtains.) We had a color consultant help us choose harlequin blue from Benjamin Moore. We have it on all four walls and we also have 4 inch white baseboards and I love it. But even better, my boys love their room! Whatever you choose be sure to have a nice size sample up on the wall to see how it works with your existing furniture. Good luck!
