If it were mine, I'd put a 1" dark navy blue inner border and then a second one about 3" wide of a med. blue like either of those above.

Borders sometimes are the hardest part and yet they are very important. Right now, I have blocks on the floor and I can't come up with a plan.

I do like your quilt and I would probably do your first example. But Toolgranny has a good suggestion as well.

I love Irish chains. I like border A or like Linda said, maybe a darker one and then border A.

I like A better too. How about binding it with the polka dots or checks or whatever they are.

I like the quilt. So many border choices! Great blues and I too like border one for color, but if you need it bigger another wider one before the binding would look good.

Between the two choices you displayed, I like the first one better. But I really like Linda's idea of the narrow navy border and then the wider, lighter blue border. I also love the idea of the binding with the checked fabric. Very pretty quilt, Valarie.

I love a border on a quilt because it makes a "frame" and gives the eye a place to rest. I agree the first one looks best, with perhaps a white or the check binding.

That is amazingly beautiful. I don't quilt, just crochet, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt, but since you mentioned adding width to it maybe you can do something like the sample below using the darkest navy for the first 1/2 inch and one of the other prints or your check for the 2 inch border.

What size are your blocks? I've always gone by the "rule" of no border wider than half the block size - but then....it's your quilt and you can do what you like - no quilt police will show up with tape measure in hand to measure your blocks and borders. Ha!

I like border fabric A with a darker read-as-solid narrow border first. The problem with even checks and stripes is that you have to cut them spot-on the grain line or they detract from the quilt - as one judge pointed out in her critique of one of my quilts.....(sigh).....

Well I've decided to do a small dark border, followed by a larger border using the fabric in picture A. My little signaure on the majority of my finished quilts ( when I get them finished...always a challenge :-), is to make the binding from the strips left over from the top, not sure if I will do that with this one...

I am fond of the Irish chain pattern, I have made a couple triple I C quilts. I used a single border one the last one but is was wider then the one you are choosing and it matched one of the fabrics in the quilt. As yours is scrappy I like what you are doing. Nice job. TFS
