What is the reason for removing it? I ask because the old contact paper isn't the same as the newer version. The old contact paper REALLY stuck like glue, and the new stuff only sticks to itself.

If it's a matter of you don't like the pattern, or color, I find a simple solution is to purchase pre-pasted vinyl wallpaper and line your shelves right over the old stuff. A good, thick wallpaper will work just fine and it's a lot more cooperative than contact paper. Another alternative is peel and stick white vinyl floor tiles but they're more difficult to cut to size.

The paper is out dated as the cabinets but there are too many to replace. I like your suggestion to use thick pre-pasted vinyl wallpaper. Thank you for your reply :)
