thanks Stush. This guy is supposed to be "Starlight" snake plant, the picture on web site shows a very Silver Gray Sans. This one does not look like it. I think "starlight" might actually be a Silver Frost. Which this plant as you noted is not. Why can't sellers tell us accurate names and show actual pictures of the plant they send?

Some are wholesalers with no real knowledge? That's how it is in the reptile wholesale industry most of the time. And those are mostly wild caughtm...I wonder if the same is true about plants? Wild collected specimens being collected to extinction for people's enjoyment?

Other than *THAT* though, I really like the sans you have there, regardless of the name. A rose by any other name is just as sweet smelling.

This looks like 'Futura Simplex' with a couple of leaves showing extra striping. I don't think the extra wide edges and extra stripe on the 2 leaves mean much at all, the overall plant definitely looks like 'Futura Simplex'.

Yeah Fred, you have to watch those names out there, if that sans looked like 'Silver Frost' it probably was 'Silver Frost'. I don't necessarily believe names on labels until I can verify through at least 2 or even 3 other sources. You might Google Futura Simplex and compare to other pics of it.

the only thing the web site said was : Starlite Snake Plant, Mother-In-Law's Tongue - Sanseveria - 4" Pot. I looked it up here and someone said it is a Silver Frost. The picture
of the Starlite looked very silver grey with slight yellow margins. The Photo I posted is what I got. (the dealer and I have worked things out amicably). Wish sellers would give us the proper names when they sell stuff. (and send the same plant purchased too, LOL)

S.trifasciata futura striated comes closer to what was pictured on the web site sort of dark green chevrons with sliver gray leaves with thin yellow margins. It doesn't matter I have a very nice new plant even if it isn't silver gray.

    Just means the quest continues!

    your a facilitator! LOL!

Fred, I Googled that Starlight name and only one vendor of it came up. His pic looks similar to Hahnii Marginated, although his leaves were quite narrow. If you can get a Starlight I'd be interested to see if you think it's something different.

Futura Striated should have variegated striations within the leaf, which Starlight doesn't seem to have.

Russ, by variegated striations do you mean what I tend to think of as chevrons
(v shaped darker markings on the S. trifasciata Laurentii)?
    Fred

Fred, the green horizontal chevrons or lines that you mention above are usually called 'banding'. Striations would be colored stripes actually within the interior of the leaf, so take a Laurentii and scatter some randomly placed stripes down the interior of the leaf, front and back, and those would be striations. This plant is actually 'Lillian True', which Juan Chahinian renamed 'Slipped Stripes'.

In his book, Chahinian calls striations of color that are very thin, 'striolations', but I rarely hear that term used. He does show a pic of a Hahnii 'Gilt Edge Striolated' which he describes as ''Yet another variety stemming from 'Hahnii Marginated' is this novel plant, which shows in addition to all the characteristics of 'Gilt Edge', faint longitudinal variegations on the center of the leaf, of the same yellow color as that of the edge, randomly distributed, but sometimes relegated to the middle third of the leaf's width.'' Pretty cool looking sans but I've never seen one 'in the flesh'.

Do you have a website with all of these pictures or does Google do its job?

EDIT: nope, Google was just a pit of optimistic despair.

"all these pictures"? are you googling the different names mentioned here along the way?

Forget this: I Googled many of them and came up empty, however, between your Aglaonema Rescue thread and Russ's Aglaonema thread, a lot of them are pictured by Russ himself.

EDIT: I just realized this is a sans thread and we aren't talking about Ags. And I have no excuse.

yeah, that has been happening a lot lately, LOL!

I'm trying to figure out the password for very old Photobucket account where I have a lot of old pics of my various plants. I'll let you know the address when I 'break in'.

Posting about ags on a sans thread can happen, and will happen. But the beatings will now begin..... :)

As long as you only use a bundle of straw.

Good come-back on that one! I hope to break into my Photobucket account today, will let you know.

I like rereading threads every once in a while. You pick up things you missed and are reminded of things you forgot.

Oh, and the bundle of straw line is from the story of Job in the Qur'an. While he was undergoing years of hardship, his wife wanted to sell her hair to get money for food for him. This was the whispering of doubt in faith to the wife and Job warned her against it saying,"if you give into temptation I will beat you with 100 (or 1000?) Lashes (hey they were brutal in the day....still are some places).

So when the wife gave in, God gave him the mercy of only using a handful of straw so that Job would not break his covenant (when he swore he would do something) nor harm his wife for only trying to take care of him.

    You guys probably don't care...

But now you can use the handful of straw thing anytime someone threatens you with violence.....

This looks like a Gold Flame Sansevieria. You came out better but I know you didn't order this. I'm 99% positive because I've owned a couple. This is Glasshouse works nursery photo. They get more green with age. http://www.glasshouseworks.com/sansevieria-trifasciata-futura-gold-flame

Not a 'Gold Flame'. May develop into one maybe but not one now. I have extra stripes on some but not the flame effect.

    Now my Gold Flame

I sent him a 'Gold Flame' pup last year. Hopefully it survived.

Sans2014, Sorry to go off topic but I remember you starting a post about using tea in your sans. While I just found out about using a herbal tea made from pure Camomile (a daisy flower). Suppose to stop fungus and give a boost to it's growth. Tying it out now on a sick rotting agave. May start to drink the stuff myself.

That is interesting, I dropped the tea concept as I mulled over the fact that my soil is MG Cactus mix which has a lot of peat. I would be very interested in your results with the Chamomile tea.
