Pretty good reviews in Amazon: Velox Tomato Press

You'll find several discussion about this and other models over on the harvest forum here, the food preservation forum. This particular one gets some poor reviews from users - things like the suction doesn't hold, it doesn't remove most of the seeds, it has a very small capacity, it is hard to crank unless the tomatoes are cooked well first, etc. The search on that forum will up the discussions if interested. The tomato mill/food press most commonly recommended there is the Victorio as you have noted.

That said I own both. This model I use if I only want to do a few tomatoes to make fresh sauce for immediate consumption because it is quick to assemble and clean and the seeds that get through don't bother me. But no way would I use it for large batches or for canning large amount.

Like you have have thick counter tops so I had to rig up a projected leaf, a wood cutting board to stick out over the edge of the counter to clamp the Victorio to. The cutting board easily clamps onto the counter with a couple of adjustable wood working clamps and then the Victorio clamps right onto the cutting board. No problems.

i have the velox and have used it for years. i have never used any other so i can't compare. the velox does the job for me. the tomatoes should be cooked to soften first. after a while using it you have to redo the suction.

Randy is the unit flimsy??? And what is the biggest pro and worst con with the unit??

its not flimsy at all. the biggest con to me is that i can't fit a large bowl under the spouts and have to empty them often. the pro is that it does what i want it to do....squeezes the tomatoes and screens out skins and seeds.

Is it a mill or press ? or combination ?
