On a rear wheel drive machine, if you come to an obstruction (rock, tree root or something) where you want to lift the deck briefly, you don't lose traction when you press down on the handle to lift the front. With a front wheel drive machine, as soon as those front wheels come off the ground, you're pushing the mower yourself.

Excuse Sears “Gagle1”, a reversed thought reaction caused it again.

I have used both drives but more in an engine repair mode vs personally paying attention. Recently I felt a self propel would help my ailing body. That was not my opinion after using my back-up mower that is an MTD rear wheel self propel. I found the mower too heavy to maneuver on my small yard. It also used twice the gas as my small 21” Murray uses (with large rear wheels assisting in maneuvering well).

I felt the large rear wheels on the Sears Eagle1 would make it easier. From the info shared and experiences (it’s heavy for maneuvering manually). I need to get busy on my body. An unexplained “Recent (4 mo+” pinched nerve in my neck has taken lots on my energy and Daily Fun Away. I feel my body was warning me before this. Listen To Your Body!
