If a DF stem drops low enough where it's touching the soil, is it a good idea to let it go into the soil and form roots, thus creating another "base stem"? The plant then essentially forms a loop with the ground.

Will this help with nutrient intake and/or serve as a backup in case the original base stem gets cut?
