Living room design advice

I'm sure my living room is a missed opportunity but I don't really know how to change. I have a large red sofa and large dining room table. maybe it's too big for the room?.... wondering whether to move the tv to the centre of the room. it may be part blocking some light where it is now. what could I do with the wall behind the sofa...new colour?... whole room is almond white

thanks
mark

Could you move the red soft chair out and just have the couch under there, maybe close to the middle so it isn't wedged in under the angle of the stairs?

This is a tough room to make functional but it can be done. I'm assuming it's long and narrow.

    - remove corner table under stairs and angle one of your red chairs there but not too tight to corner. Bring it out a bit.

    - Place sofa on wall where dining table is or float it out. It's hard to tell how much room there is but the furniture should be grouped together. There has to be a walkway pattern as well.

    - El second chair off sofa so it's facing what appears to be a mirror.

    - Replace the mirror w the tv.

    - Move the dr table to parallel the window

Don't paint the area under stairs a different color. You'd be highlighting a flaw. Creamy yellow or gray blue would work with your red furniture.

I have started to rearrange my furniture following the advice from people on houzz _ thank you. I still want to move the tv under the stairs and put the table by the patio doors. need to find a way of running the satellite cable from the wall behind the television to under the stairs. I am starting to think that all my furniture I have had all these years is actually too big for my room!!.

You hit the nail on the head: your current furniture is way too large, red and bulky. Look at this photo of a similar space with smaller pieces. A sofa with legs allows the eye to travel under. More visual space.

Plus, having the sofa close to wall color blends it away. Contrast makes a space feel smaller.
