Wood floor clean up

Looking to clean up our wood floors. The high traffic areas are pretty beat up and I would like bring them back to life. Hoping to avoid sanding bad total re-do. Thanks so much for all suggestions!!

Try Watco Tung Oil finish. This is a great way to clean up and bring back your wood floors back to life.

Hard telling, but at 1st glance, it appears you may have missed your window of opportunity for a simple "clean-up".

If that stained area comes off with some mild soap (diluted dish soap such as Dawn for example) and a bit of elbow grease... you may get satisfactory results. Don't use any more than will dry within a few minutes.

However, there are a few products available that can be used for cleaning/refurbishing hardwood flooring. One of them is a professional product by DuraSeal called: Renovator, although it's purpose is more for working on flooring with wax finishes, and is not available on the regular market. You might try obtaining a quart from a flooring retailer who knows about wood flooring.

The consistent dark "swirl" in your pic suggests that there may have been damage done to the finish which resulted from a prior attempt at cleaning something up, and caused a chemical reaction that left a darkened stain.

If that's the case... sanding & refinishing may be the only viable route to take.

Other than that... anything you ADD to the problem will only mean more that has to be removed later on.

Thanks so much for info! You may be right on missed opportunity :-) but will def take a look at the products and techniques you all mentioned!

I knows it's messy and inconvenient but I'm a huge fan of sanding and refinishing. It's not very expensive and you'll enjoy your perfect floors when it's over.
