Hello Houzz and thanks in advance for your help.

We are redoing our kitchen and a few of the "work in progress" pictures are posted below. So far, hutch and kitchen floor cabinets are installed. As you may be able to see in the pictures, there is a gap between the cabinets and the wall - about 1 inch on either side of the hutch and 2 inches between the wall and the floor cabinets.

The cabinets seem to be fixed to the wall already - I don't think they'll be moved. Is that gap normal? I wouldn't think so, but I've never redone a kitchen before. Is there any reason not to have the cabinets flush to the wall? And am I being too nit-picky to expect that new built-in cabinets will be installed perfectly - maybe an inch or two is within the "tolerance" I should have?

I planned to ask the kitchen designer but my wife thinks the gaps will be filled in later and that I'm being too much of a control freak to ask about it before the work is completed. On the other hand, this kitchen isn't exactly cheap and I think it's reasonable to expect a neat, tight installation. In addition, I think it's easier to point out issues early, when they can possibly be fixed more easily.

So, what do you think? Are these gaps normal, do they get filled in later in the installation process, and am I being the control freak my wife accuses me of being?
