They can definitely install pullouts. The hardware can be pricey, especially with brands like Rev-a-Shelf, but it'll be worth doing.

It depends on their DIY/handyperson skills. I took some door bases and turned them into drawer bases by building drawers and installing drawer glides. You can also by drawer box kits from Barker, assemble them, and add drawer glides. (Pullouts are just really short drawers.)

check out shelves-that-slide and rev-a-shelf. You can certainly do it yourself if you're at all handy and can measure accurately.

I did it--built the trays & installed with drawer glades, so much more useful--be careful with measurements & if you're doing pullouts, consider the space needed to go past the door & don't line up with any hinges.
