if you've been stung a couple times by (yellow jacket) bees from the same hive?

DH tried to rid our house of a hive and wound up getting stung about 3 times. We got smart and called an exterminator who took care of the problem, and he told DH that when the bees who stung him went back to the hive, the others got a whiff of him and sort of "know" him now.

So, last night, walking the dogs, a yellow jacket just went right for him and stung! Out of the blue!

We'd been near the house hive many times, watching the bees come and go, and no aggression whatsoever. DH now walks near one and, pardon the pun, it made a beeline for him!

He's a bit wary now and it's still summer. Won't get really cool here for awhile.

I wonder if the survivors recolonized nearby.
