Outdoor Patio Lighting Dilema - Please help!

We have a backyard patio that runs the length of the house that is made from solid wood beams, but the ceiling is only 8 feet high. We love the intimacy of it--however are stuck on how to light it. We are in the process of a huge remodel/gut job to update the house--and will be painting these beams a much lighter color--more of greige (we are considering SW 7037 Balanced Beige or SW 7030 Anew Gray). How should we go about lighting it? We plan to host large parties/events out here in the evenings. Should we do LED spotlights and point them upwards? Really have no idea what to do. Please help!
