Creative? Base for kitchen table or something else?

These pieces were made for my parents in the 50's or 60's and were on either side of their dining room hutch. 40" from the base to the top. I'd like to be able to use them and wondered if they could be incorporated into the base for a glass kitchen table. Any thoughts for you creative ones? (the back is plain and the base is flat)
