great room: help with mixing wood and white cabinetry

We are in process of deciding cabinetry for our kitchen reno. We will have an L shape island and base/wall cabinetry on the other two walls. We will also eventually be putting cabinetry in family room which is open to the kitchen. The wall with mirror on the left will have a wet bar (base and wall cabinets) and the fireplace will have built ins with base cabinets (toy storage) and open shelving (for display) above.

Lots of cabinetry and trim planned for this space as you can see! The dining table and chairs will stay and floors will stay. I like the idea of mixing white and wood cabinetry. Any suggestions for cabinetry selection? Don't mind the unfinished 4x4 supporting column in middle of room! Thanks for offering any insight.

Your space is nice but not huge ,I would suggest having the cabinetry match ,you could do wood shelving to blend it

Wood and white will look confused. Pick a style and stick to it so you house looks 'right.'

Your fireplace brick looks very rustic so I'd go with a stained wood mantle if it was my house.

Thank you both for your feedback. We are planning on painting the brick around the fireplace or covering it with tile. While my dining table is distressed, I don't want much of a rustic look. Because the space doesn't get a ton of natural light, I would lean towards white over wood to brighten it. Are you both suggesting I do white cabinets and trim for both rooms? Seems like a lot of white. maybe there are other ways to create texture and break up all the painted white wood? Thoughts?

Make sure you have a space large enough for the TV in built ins around FP. It is too high over the FP

Yes all white then layer texture with rugs throws pillows plants baskets etc

Most designers will tell you no on tv over fireplace in general

For functional reasons, the tv over fp has worked out great for us. I am however not opposed to placing it to the left or right of fireplace (at an angle maybe? ) as part of the built ins. We really want a tv in this open floor plan and this is the only wall where it works. Do you think off to one side that is a better way to go?

If you like it over the TV, leave it. But it does look high because there is more space below it than above. If you add a mantle, that would help. Also, if you put built ins on either side of the fire place, it will be sort of a recessed fireplace, which is weird. Are you positive you will use the wet bar? That would be a great area for toy storage. I'm concerned that all the cabinetry will crowd your room.
