taking down wall/heating vent

Hello. I have 2 small bedrooms (9 x 12)--I was thinking about taking down the wall between the two to make it one very nice size room (18 x 24). There is a heating/cooling vent in that wall. Can that be moved to the floor? Also, I like the exposed hardwood. How difficult would it be to patch in the hardwood floor? I would say an area rug but that would cover up the vent if the oven is now in the floor. This would make my house a 3 bedroom instead of a 4 bedroom.

How difficult would it be to patch in the hardwood floor? Difficult, but doable. Getting the stain to match will be even more difficult.

We were able to match 1940 oak hardwood between rooms by purchasing the closest matching wood and then having the entire floor stripped and stained. If this is an older house you may have to search to find hardwood that is the right thickness, since newer flooring is usually thinner. You may also need to use wider or thinner strips of new flooring, since the wall you remove is unlikely to be exactly the width of 2 or 3 strips of new flooring. We were lucky and were able to find a flooring guy that was very good at this type of work.
