Induction cooktops

We are thinking of going with induction rather than gas for our new kitchen. From brief research it looks to me that the Miele, Thermador and Bosch Benchmark units have the best specs (highest power output). I like how the Miele and Thermador units have beveled edges and look more high end, the Bosch has the nice flex induction feature. Does anyone have any of these units and can share their thoughts?

I see that the Miele KM 6386 is available everywhere except the USA...it is an updated model with a 1 bridged element. Does anyone know if this will be coming to the USA anytime soon?

malba2366: I am looking at the same models as you and have yet to decide. In a discussion a couple of months ago, one person who had an all Miele kitchen replaced her cooktop with the Thermador 5-burner (I think without SS trim in grey or beige) b/c she disliked (strongly) the black top with red shining through. She was very happy with the Thermador. I'm leaning toward the Thermador but would love having the flex index. feature.

I called miele yesterday and they told me they have a new cooktop with connectivity (feature that turns on range hood automatically with cooktop). Unfortunately they could not share a release date. I am assuming it would be the one in this link as it is already available in canada and the rest of the world,

I have a thermador induction cooktop and I absolutely LOVE it. We have just finished building our new home and picking out kitchen appliances was quite difficult for me, especially with the mixed reviews on thermador. I went to a few cooking demos and was happy with its performance. I fell in love with the silvery cooktop they have as my kitchen is all white and I didn't like the look of the black cooktops. My mother has had induction for years and loves it and I was simply tired of gas cooking AND cleaning. It's incredibly easy to melt chocolate and have it stay perfectly warm with the touch of a button. The rate at which is heats and cools is amazing. I cook daily and although it's only been 2 months in our new home I walk into my kitchen every morning with a huge smile on my face.

I bought a year ago. I was on a budget, but I made the decision to go with induction. At the time, I loved the Thermadore cooktop, but way out of my range, so what I went with was a Frigidaire Induction Range. The whole range was much more budget worthy than separate cooktop and slide in oven, which is what I would have gotten, had that been in my budget.

So, a year later, I am very happy with my choice. Bought locally. Cost $1700, which included a couple hundred for 5 yr warranty (I read multiple times on varied forums that this was wise to consider). Great performance, love the technology, still looks like it was just delivered. What I like a lot about this model is it has nobs, not all digital. Works better with my brain! I didn't need a warming oven below the oven. The small warming burner that is an electric burner, I haven't used much, but am tickled to have it when I am cooking for larger crowds.

Great convection/conventional oven. Great broiler, the coils cover almost all of the space, not just concentrated in the middle of the oven. I received a small, about 3oz. bottle of cleaner with it and still have 3/4 of it left, because I only use it occasionally when I can't get a smudge up. I use a spray bottle with water and white vinegar. Works like a charm 98.9% of the time. Just like cleaning windows, because that's what it is. Hope this helps someone. I used this forum often when considering induction and really appreciated the reviews.

Hi Ndovale, I have been looking for an induction range with bridged cooktop but so far no success. JennAir keeps pushing out their date, so looking at separate cooktop and wall oven. Curious how you like the dedicated positions on your Frigidaire, vs the bridged elements the separate cooktops offer? Do you see a need for bridging the elements? Thank you!

@24kbear...that looks laid out differently than the one sold in canada (i pasted the photo below) and the rest of the world. Were you able to get a model number or any specs?

Sorry malba2366! That's the one they had there. Maybe the one available in Q4 will look like your pic. As soon as I heard it would be available much later this year, I moved on to looking at refrigerators. I'll probably stick with a Wolf induction cooktop (not on your list) because I liked the interface. I thought the Thermador had too much swiping like my iphone and I also wasn't too keen on the Bosh Benchmark's controls either. My appliance guy had me turn on and work each cooktop, so it's just my personal preference on the controls.

24kbear, did the power output of the Bosch perform better than the Wolf bridged induction? I am reading that the Bosch technology may be better and is their own, vs Wolf outsourced ( not sure if that is true, based on salespeople and a few things online). I have only demo'd the Wolf. The showrooms near me don't have the Bosch Benchmark active, unfortunately. Thank you!

It does sem like the Bosch/thermador models have a much higher power output than the rest (4600-4700) watts. I don't know if this is just marketing or if there is some actual performance benefit.

To those with induction cooktops...how does wok cooking turn out? Do you find there is enough heat for this?
