You can change this so that the vent pipe runs up the chimney (assuming its an open cavity) it's just a lot more time an labor to do so, Also you will need a chimney cap to fit that size and model of vent pipe.

Overall its about 4 times as much work but then you dont have to look at a vent coming out of the side of your house

How often are you on this side of the house that a fireplace vent bothers you? Perhaps you could plant a lovely bush in front of it.

Your right that is not good, if your planning on a screened in area you should definitely move it.

It will be overly hot and and fumy in that area,
