Just a thought, but have you ever considered a concrete countertop? You have a few different tones in your floor and concrete might give you a little more room to go as subtle or as ornate as you would like with the color and pattern. Also, it's great in keeping with the texture of your tile flooring. Here are a few pics to show you what can be done with color in concrete countertops;

I have a terra cotta floor and lighter concrete-look countertops and I love it! I had ugly, but very sturdy, countertops and I used a kit by company called Encore. It has the unique variations in the look of it, just like real concrete. I did it a year ago and it still looks great.

Love the concrete counters! I was going to suggest butcher block...same colours as the terra cotta but in a wood grain. Of course it would just be a variation on what you have now. The crisp white counters shown above are also a nice look.

Black granite. Love the floors. Paint ceiling white to lighten the whole space and raise the roof.
