Need help with choosing colors for large open room

Re-doing a lake cottage to retire to. Will have a fairly large open room, 2 stories high, in the front - combo living area and kitchen. There is also a balcony looking over to this area. Struggling with what to do as far as color in the room - color of walls - should we use multiple colors, color of cabinets to go with. Really did not want white cabinets, but windows will be white on the inside. Open to suggestions.

I'd like a LR-Kitchen Combo to look good with the LR furnishings & cabinets. I'd probably opt 4 white cabinets & wainscoting to repeat the white window trim. I'd throw a quilt over the upper railing to add color & establish a palette.

Do you have any existing colors to work around, for instance, countertops, backsplash, flooring, furnishings? Just wanted to add that if the photoshop is representative, you could have white cabinets for instance, but color on the island, to break up the white.

What's up with the obsessive need to paint every wall and ceiling a different colour?

I would keep the colors neutral like you already have. Bring in the outside beautiful colors from nature with accessories and art. Even a beautiful chair is some of the colors of the ocean would be a nice pop of color

In open floor plans, in my opinion, it seems to me that using multiple colors causes a "choppy" effect. Not so much if the colors are darker or lighter versions of a color though...

From what I can see of the outside it looks beautiful! I would "bring the outside in", and treat the walls to a beautiful blue that echoes the tone of the water. Something in the aqua family - not too intense - but blue enough to create a mood of calm and also a blue that honors the surrounding natural beauty. Yes, and leave what is white - white for an elegant contrast.

And another thing, once you have your blue chosen - combined with the white - you can add accessories in dark brown or black to punctuate the room even more. Those three colors combined will create a modern and clean look that matches the architecture or lines of the room.
