hi, Les Daniels...you wrote last summer, and hope all is well! Your selections will be larger for such a space since it is approaching spring and summer!

My best finds have been recommendations from my local nursery. They know which ones will outgrow the containers, which ones are slow growing, and also I found a pair of lime-green, evergreens for Christmas holidays, still looking great, happy in containers, and we won't move them into the yard/garden for some time because the staff was familiar with them. Wish I had their photo! They were flexible with having off and on rain, snow, dry spells, cold temps in central N. C. and looked wonderful.

You can also add vines around the base from a balcony, creating color with trailing pansies and then wave petunias, in the heat. It totally depends on your location and what you like. Of course there is always English ivy, different varieties to choose from, and they grow quickly.

Cedars can live in the same pot for hundreds of years. Just the sides and bottom of root ball need pruned by 1 inch and repot.

How about a citrus tree like a Meiwa kumquat or Fukushu kumquat. Just make sure it is grafted to a poncirus trifoliata hybrid.
